Undergraduate instructors play a vital role on campus, providing instruction to their fellow students across many courses. This synchronous seminar is designed to provide a strong foundation for undergraduate instructors who work directly with students, such as discussion/lab section leaders and lecture learning assistants.
Through a highly interactive format, undergraduate instructors will learn about and practice applying strategies to help create an environment in which students feel valued and supported in their learning. Topics include:
- Exploring what equity-focused teaching means
- Facilitating effective group work
- Promoting participation and engagement
This seminar builds on CRLT and the Foundational Course Initiative’s extensive experience providing training and support for undergraduate instructors at U-M who serve in a wide variety of roles in large foundational courses.
Please note: Participants are expected to complete a 30 minute asynchronous module as pre-work for this seminar. Further information about this pre-work, including instructions and an invitation to a Canvas module, will be sent to participants one week prior to their registered session.
